Context

Introducing an artwork for FAR–NEAR’s ‘2024 Open Call-endar’. “FAR–NEAR is a curated cross-cultural book series broadening perspectives of Asia through image, idea, person and history.”

Context

The artwork displays three quotes – or sayings – around water, from Chinese, Hong Kong and Japanese cultures (a Japanese saying, a quote from Lao Tzu and another one from Bruce Lee). All three of these sayings offer a poetic perspective on our adaptability and our capacity to mimic water, as a philosophical way of living – a great resolution to live more peacefully and creatively the year 2024. The dragon lettering represents a powerful and motivational energy to celebrate the new year. The post-modern dynamic rhythm of the composition echoes the vernacular visual scenery of large scale Asian metropolises, like Tokyo or Hong Kong – as well as a revisited newspaper layout.
